Selected value label with a fallback

Show the selected region (or any column value), or a friendly default when none or several are selected.

Dynamic titles & labels · Beginner · Not yet reviewed

Region Label =
SELECTEDVALUE(Region[Region Name], "All regions")

How it works

SELECTEDVALUE returns the value when exactly one value of the column is in the filter context. If none or several are selected it returns the second argument.

Combine it with other text in a title measure, for example "Sales - " & [Region Label].

What your model needs

- A Region table with a Region Name column.

Small example

Input data

Slicer: Region = North

Expected result

North
(two regions selected: All regions)

Common mistakes and limitations

- When two regions are selected the label says "All regions", which can be misleading. Use CONCATENATEX to list them instead.
